Case Study: Mercer County Park

Site Location and Description

Mercer Meadows 800+ acre public park facility located in Hopewell and Lawrence Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. Containing Rosedale Lake and the Mercer County Equestrian Center.

Key Project Elements

Overall Park Development Plan, Trail and Facility Design, Treatment Works Approvals, NJDEP Land Use Wetlands and Flood Hazard Area Permits with Hardship Exception. In 2009, the Mercer County Parks Commission had assembled an 800+ acre complex of parcels purposed for the creation of a “passive recreation” park which emphasized the protection of the environment and natural features while providing opportunities for such activities as fishing, boating, hiking, biking, horseback riding, and a 5-acre dog park. A 5 mile long section of the Lawrence-Hopewell Trail (LHT) was to traverses the property connecting two established sections of the trail.

The properties contained many environmentally sensitive areas including Category One streams and wetland areas. E&LP was tasked with the design and permitting of the LHT, parking lots, restroom facilities, and many interpretive elements along the trail. Following successful design, E&LP has been performing construction management on the project.
