Case Study: Bonnell Tavern

E&LP is providing site design and permitting services for the restoration of the Historic Bonnell Tavern located in the Town of Clinton and Township of Union. Originally constructed in 1767, the Bonnell Tavern has remained an iconic structure for centuries along the western terminus of the Clinton Historic District. While remaining unoccupied for decades, the existing structure has fallen into disarray. In order to preserve and restore the structure to its original roots as a tavern, E&LP has created a design that entails the relocation of the structure to the northeasterly corner of the property with the associated site improvements screened behind the structure.

Due to the numerous environmental and site constraints surrounding the property, the full service design capabilities of E&LP have allowed the client to facilitate the numerous state permits required by the NJDEP and NJDOT. The crucial elements in providing a successful product for the client were the due diligence through design and preservation of rich historic past of the site.
